For Rob Hammond, the last two months have been a high stakes waiting game. Scott’s attempt to swan dive into an arsonist’s fire and his subsequent desire to be more independent didn’t sit well. Unfortunately, Rob’s other obligations wouldn’t wait. Now after a long separation, Robby is finally reunited with his kids, and on his way to introduce them to their new home and the man he loves. This time, he’s going to make Scott see reason—even if he has to fight dirty.

With the recent trouble at Mountain Shadows and the increasing frequency of his nightmares, Scott McGregor has to wonder if this is the best time for a relationship with Robby to go forward. Still seeking absolution for a guilt he shouldn’t carry, Scott worries he’s not fit to meet the children—let alone live with them. Despite arranging a special day to make the kids feel welcome, Scott still intends to protect his heart.

One man knows they will work things out—the other is afraid they can’t. Only one of them can be right.

Flareup Fighting Fire Book 4 edition by Laura Harner Jae Ashley Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

At last, Robby and Scott have come to an agreement about their relationship. They both want to make it work, make it forever and give Robby's kids a home. It would be idyllic if someone wasn't trying to run Mountain Shadows out of business. More arson is discovered, but the most troubling problem is Scott's PTSD. Scott is being overwhelmed by it. Scott doesn't know if their relationship can handle it.

Another wonderful installment in the 2014 Pulp Friction series. It is so much fun to immerse yourself in this series. I give it an a back draft full of stars.
I am sitting by the pool on vacation in the Bahamas and have sent all my family away…..I have the next chapter from Laura Harner Book 4 Flare Up and need all my wits about me…..I want to cry a bit….It’s book 4….The series will be ending soon and I will be adrift without this family I have come to love….

Pulp Friction 2013 started this ride for me from Laura Harner, Lee Brazil, Havan Fellows and Tom Webb. Four authors, a rotation of each writing 4 books and one giant finale…..They have amped up 2014 and moved from the streets of Atlanta, GA to Flagstaff, AZ to Mountain Shadows Campground where we are introduced to a whole new set of amazing characters except for Cannon the Doctor we loved and hated from Friction 2013.

Laura Harner dazzled us with her opening of this newest series, where we met Robby and Scott. We have followed their relationship and now are still very concerned about how this will all work out.

These four authors tantalize the reader into a false sense of calm and then hit us on the back of the head with a bat…….which again is what is happening with this story….You would think that Ms Laura wouldn’t be that cruel, but yet again, I am left wringing my hands in worry about what the long lasting results will be for Scott and the flames that haunt him….

This series is a steady 5 Star in my book and now it is Lee Brazil to turn up the heat for a steamy August read. Laura, I love to hate you……Great story !!!

Rating 5 stars out of 5

Following his recent meltdown during a fire on Mountain Shadows and the increasing frequency of his nightmares, Scott McGregor is unsure of everything…his home, his future, and his relationship with Robby Hammond. Scott is buried under the guilt he feels about the accident that caused his disability and another's injury. And now that he knows about Robby's children and previous marriage, he wonders how he will fit into the new family dynamics, if at all.

Rob Hammond has gone to bring his children home from his mother-in-law's house where they have been staying. He wants to introduce them to Scott and their new home on Mountain Shadows. He loves Scott and hopes that with his children in their home, it will send a message about how serious Rob is about their relationship and their future together.

But a new danger to Mountain Shadows campground grows bolder and soon events start to escalate out of control. When the fires flare up around them, can Rob and Scott keep each other and Rob's family safe from harm?

With Flare-up, Laura Harner starts the journey towards the end of the series and the resolution to the Elemental Connections series finale. Events are on a collision course as more acts of vandalism and arson increase and the personal problems of Scott McGregor soar.

Laura Harner brings Rob's adorable family into the picture at the beginning of the story. His children are endearing and it shows yet another element in Robby's personality, that of a loving father and family man. We are given a few more hints of Rob and Scott's background and a temporary reprieve from the suspense and dangers present at the Mountain Shadows campground these days. I just love this segment and wanted it to go on much longer. So will you.

Scott's inability to deal with his disability and departure from the profession of firefighter is given forward movement out of the present stasis here. The author uses a wonderfully realistic method to shock Scott into looking at his current abilities and future in a pragmatic and raw way. I thought this was a necessary and authentic moment for the reader and Scott. It brought some of the dangers of being a wildfire firefighter into play and the vivid descriptions of the heat, smoke and agility needed to handle the equipment and quickness of the fires brought such a hazard and tragedy to life.

This is not a story or series you can get comfortable in. As soon as you settle in to a certain mind frame, Laura Harner is just as quick to jerk you out of it with some new aspect of her plot or new revelation about the problems and events occurring on Mountain Shadows campground and this couples relationship. It's all about building up to some gargantuan disclosure and overwhelming event that will happen in the last stories. Laura Harner is an expert at building an atmosphere of suspense and anticipation needed to sustain the necessary momentum. And with Flare-up both the title and the plot start us running towards the fire.

I loved this. It makes me want to go back and reread all the stories that preceded it. I want to savor the buildup and the events that Laura Harner is using as the ingredients for her series finale. This is a highly recommended story and series. Put it on your must read lists now. But make sure you start at the beginning. That's absolutely necessary in order to understand, enjoy, and yes, savor, the full intensity and layers to this plot. Book No. 5 here I come!!!!!

Cover art by Laura Harner. Love the covers, love the branding for the series.
another great story

Sorry to say Laura this series is the worst set of books I have read by you and I know you are a super writer but something happen here. None of the books seem to fit together to tell a story it seems they are a bunch of scribblings. Here one example in book the book ends with a cabin burning and the next book starts a few days or longer and you never hear why the cabin burned. All the books are like this I would like to know what happen and why did you not just write this series as one book. I am sure I would have been a much happier person if I could make since of this series.
My grade on this series is a Big -F and not worth the money to buy or to read. I am on book four and I not sure if I can finish it do to the fact it is so poorly written.
